WELFARE/GENERAL ASSISTANCE OFFICE HOURS ARE BY APPOINTMENT ONLY
The Welfare Director administers the state General Assistance Program which provides help to eligible people who need financial assistance for basic needs, such as rent, food, heating fuel, medications, non-elective medical care and other items that are considered essential. In order to receive assistance, applicants must follow program rules and meet eligibility guidelines.
HOW TO APPLY
GENERAL ASSISTANCE OFFICE HOURS (BY APPOINTMENT ONLY) on Tuesdays and Wednesdays from 9:00 am to 3:30 pm.
HOW TO APPLY
You MUST make an appointment with the Welfare Director. You must apply in person and fill out an application. When you apply, you will be asked to give the administrator information necessary to determine your eligibility. You will be asked for your household income, expenses, and the number of people in your household and their social security numbers. You will also be asked to show the administrator proof of your expenses including food, rent, heating fuel, electricity, water/sewer, medical expenses and so on. Without complete information about your income and expenses, the administator can’t determine if you are eligible. It is your responsibility to show that you are eligible. It is the administrator’s job to verify the information you provide. You should be aware that if you receive General Assistance, you are
required to repay the town for all of the assistance provided when you become financially able to do so.
